Traverse of The Lake District - 23 Jul

Traverse of The Lake District - 23 Jul

23-30 July 2021

A perfect introduction to multi-day hiking! - No carrying of heavy packs so you can simply hike and enjoy your surroundings as we transport your kit between each stopover.

This week-long adventure - will involve hiking on track, through valleys and over mountain passes of The Lake District, with one night camping in the wild, under the stars and away from the crowds.

The 100km route will see you hike the entire length (South-North) of The Lake District National Park!

Lead by a highly qualified and experienced Mountain Leader, you will be completely self-sufficient and will overnight at campsites, hostels and bunkhouses (with one night wild camping)

This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and all on the shores of our little island. This is a great introduction to multi-day hiking!

You will be hiking for 6-days in a row, mostly on tracks and with a day pack as we transport your kit from site to site.  However, if the weather allows, we will include 1-night of wild camping, so a heavier pack may be carried for 1-day

Tents, sleeping bags & mats and cooking equipment will be provided - but you are welcome to bring your own if you have them.

This trip is suitable for everyone and no prior experience of multi-day hiking is necessary.

The small group size (max.8) will enable us to enjoy the tranquility of the area whilst enabling a flexible itinerary to explore the hidden gems that The Lake District has to offer.

All City Mountaineering trips are compliant with the 1992 Package Travel regulations (including financial protection)

  • Please note that exact timings and order of activities are subject to change, based on the local conditions at the time - The beauty of this trip is that the plans can be loose to allow for uncontrollable factors such as the weather

Friday (from 6pm) - Meet outside Euston Railway Station and take a relaxing train journey to The Lake District. You will be met at the train station and transported to your hostel accommodation for the night for a full trip briefing, kit check and readying yourself for the days ahead.

Saturday - You will be transported to the southern end of The Lake District, where the first hike begins - a 15km hike to Coniston Water with light packs to ease in to the week-long adventure. The hike will end at a campsite, where your tents will be pitched and waiting for you. Dinner will be in a local pub.

Sunday - After breakfast, you will help pack away the camping kit and make your way north - a 15km hike to Langdale, through lush valleys and Beatrix Potters old house, thought to be the setting of many Peter Rabbit adventures. The hike will end at a campsite, where you will help pitch the tents before heading to a local pub for dinner.

Monday - This is the first day of hiking with a heavier pack. You will carry the tents and other camping kit with you in to the heart of the National Park for a night sleeping under the stars for a wonderful wild camp away from the crowds (maybe a sumit camp to watch the sun set/rise - depending on the weather)

Tuesday - After a wild breakfast (and maybe a wild swim?) you will continue your journey north to a bunkhouse/hostel on the shores of Derwent Water. This 15km hike will take you through the beautiful valley of Borrowdale and on towards Keswick

Wednesday - Stopping in Keswick for lunch, you will continue north to the lesser trodden tracks below the mighty Skiddaw mountain. You will camp in the heart of the valley outside a remote hostel - offering shelter if the weather turned a little sour.

Thursday - The fianl day of the adventure will see you reach the northern boundaries of The Lake District! You will then be transported back to your accommdoation in Keswick for a well earned shower and celebration meal.

Friday - The mornig is free for you to explore Keswick before you are transported to the train station in the early afternoon for a return back home
