On this guided wild camping trip in The Lake District, you’ll spend two days and two nights in the lesser travelled parts of the National Park, camping away from the crowds to clear your mind and open your senses to your majestic surroundings.

Wild camping is on a lot of people’s bucket lists. For many it is the ultimate way to enjoy the outdoors and to truly feel wild.

The first night will include a night hike under the stars before pitching tents for the grand reveal of where you are in the morning. The second night’s location will depend on the weather and, if it is right, we may even camp on a summit of a mountain so that you can experience the ultimate sunset.

You don’t need to have any previous experience of hiking to join this trip* and the small group size (we limit the group to eight people) will allow us to give you our full attention, ensuring your safety and enjoyment throughout the whole weekend.

*As we’ll be carrying larger rucksacks than we would on our non-wild camping trips (you’ll need to carry a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, tent and share of group food), a basic standard of fitness is required.

Itinerary

  • Optional: Meet outside Euston train station at 6pm and take a relaxing train journey to The Lake District where your leader and host for the weekend will meet you and drive you to the heart of the National Park.
  • Arrive at the designated starting point (this varies from trip to trip depending on the weather conditions)
  • You will take a short night hike into the wilderness where you will pitch tents and rest for the night.

  • Waking up to see your remote surroundings for the first time, we will have breakfast before packing away the tents for a hike deeper into the mountains and, if the weather is fine, we may even camp on a summit for sunset/sunrise.

  • You will pack away our tents and head off on another hike, back to the vehicles for your onward journey.
  • Train & Transfer Option: You will be transported from the mountains to the train station for your relaxing journey home (expect to arrive in London at around 9pm)

It was my second trip with City Mountaineering and I look forward to booking my next trip with them. We spent a weekend wild camping in the Lake District, our host Katie is amazing, such a great energy and so knowledgeable. She loves sharing skills so we got to learn about navigation, flora of the place and lots of tips for future adventures. I can’t recommend City Mountaineering highly enough, the organisation from Stu is unmatchable, great communication with all the information you will need, the food while camping (we even had dessert), overall is just an amazing experience. THANK YOU SO MUCH Stu, Katie and team.

I had a fantastic weekend wild camping in The Lake District with City Mountaineering. Katie was a wonderful guide, and the food, morning coffee, and cake were lovely touches. Each walk was about 10 km, making for a relaxed weekend with bright and sunny weather. I will definitely go again with City Mountaineering.
