Wild Camp on Ben Hope – Celebrate the Solstice on Scotland’s Northernmost Munro!

Itinerary

  • Optional: Meet outside Euston/Birmingham New Street/Crewe train station and board The Caledonian Sleeper train for an overnight journey to Inverness (bed in a twin-share, single-sex room)

Note: This trip to the far north-west of Scotland has a very tight schedule, the departure times are not flexible

  • 10:00 am – Meet your guide and fellow adventurers in Inverness
  • 10:15 am – 3:00 pm – Scenic drive north through the stunning Highlands, with a lunch stop en route
  • 4:00 pm – Pack your expedition bags and begin ascent of Ben Hope (927m), the northernmost Munro with views across the entire north coast of Scotland

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

  • Evening – Reach the summit and set up wild camp on the flat summit
  • Enjoy hot drinks, snacks and sweeping views of the Far North
  • Watch the sunset melt into twilight and experience near-24hr daylight
  • Overnight: Wild camp on Ben Hope summit

Descent: 950m
Hiking Time: 2-3 hours

  • Early morning – Watch the sunrise, enjoy breakfast and break camp
  • 8:00 am – 10:30 am – Descend from Ben Hope back to the minibus
  • 10:30am – 2:00pm – Drive to Durness for lunch and visit the pristine beaches of North West Scotland
  • 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Return drive to Inverness, with a short stop to stretch legs
  • Optional: Board The Caledonian Sleeper train at 7pm for a relaxing journey to London/Birmingham/Crewe. The train is scheduled to arrive at London Euston around 8am on Monday

Accommodation (we provide 1-person tents, warm sleeping bags and sleeping mats)
2-days/1-night guided hiking by an experienced and qualified guide
Wild Camp dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday
Road transfers between Inverness and Ben Hope
Optional: Return Travel on The Caledonian Sleeper Train between London/Birmingham/Crewe and Inverness

Note: The weather and ground conditions will not be known until closer to the date and full winter conditions, whilst expected at this time of year, cannot be guaranteed.  The trip will go ahead regardless of conditions (The only exception being if the prevailing weather is too dangerous e.g. Thunderstorms)
