Are you looking for something to do over the Christmas period? Want to do something a little different away from the city?

Then look no further – Here is your solution!

Hike the wild areas of Scotland and stay in a beautiful, 5-star Lochside cottage in Torridon to test Santa’s ability in finding you.

The Exact itinerary and specific locations will not be known until closer to the date, but be rest assured that there will be plenty of hiking, Munro summiting and generally having fun 🙂

You will board the Caledonian Sleeper train in London and take a relaxing overnight journey to Inverness where you will be met by your guide and whisked away to the wilds of the Scottish highlands. When the weather and ground conditions are known, we will pick the best area to explore over this festive period!

If the mountains are in full winter condition (lots of snow!) – No problem, everyone will be provided with ice axes and crampons (and taught how to use them) for free!

Itinerary

We will have a week in Torridon and the surrounding area. The specific itinerary will be decided when the weather and ground/snow conditions are known.

Don’t worry, there are plenty of amazing mountains and hikes in the region and the open itinerary will ensure that we make the best of what the season throws at us!

An example* itinerary is as follows:

  • Depart London on The Caledonian Sleeper Train at 21:00 and enjoy the lie-flat beds in your private room (twin share) for a relaxing overnight journey to the highlands.

* The beauty of this trip is that you can pick and choose which hikes you join… If you fancy resting and simply reading/playing games/chilling out at the hostel, that’s fine 🙂

  • Arrive at Inverness train station at 11:00 where you will be met by your guide and driven to your Lochside cottage accommodation (doubles and twin share rooms available).
  • After settling in to the accommodation and a light lunch we will head out for a leisurely hike along the coastline to the remote hamlet of Diabeg.
  • Dinner and drinks in the local café before driving back to the accommodation for the night

  • Our first mountain day will see us take a short drive to hike the mighty Beinn Alligin (the mountain that towers over our accommodation). This will be a long day as we tackle the famous ‘horns of alligin’ before continuing our circuit back to the minibus.
  • We will return to the accommodation for dinner and to prepare for Santa’s arrival

  • Christmas Day! Wake up. Open any gifts that Santa may have left us.
  • Have Christmas breakfast before being directed on a self-guided walk along the lake to build an appetite for the feast that awaits!
  • Return to the cottage for a huge Christmas dinner, drinks and merriment

  • It’s time to work of the over-indulgence of Christmas and work off those roast potatoes…
  • Departing the cottage in the morning, we will take a leisurely drive back to Inverness. We will stop en route to hike an easy circuit around loch Coulin and the Coulin estate (our heads may not be ready for a bigger peak after Christmas Day 🙂 )
  • The Caledonian Sleeper train departs Inverness at 20:00 for your return back to London in the comfort of lie-flat beds in your private rooms (twin share).

  • Arrive in London Euston at 09:00

5-nights away from the city and exploring the far north-west of the UK, which includes:

Bed in twin share room on the Caledonian Sleeper Train (return from London to Inverness)
All food when in the cottage or hiking
Lochside cottage accommodation (doubles and twin-share available)
Guided walks by a highly experienced, knowledgeable and qualified Mountain Leader with many, many years of visiting these areas.
Any technical equipment (and lessons in how to use them) if required for winter conditions

Food/drink if we decide to eat in a local pub/café/restaurant
Personal hiking kit

Note:  The weather and ground conditions will not be known until closer to the date and full winter conditions, whilst expected at this time of year, cannot be guaranteed.  The trip will go ahead regardless of conditions (The only exception being if the prevailing weather is too dangerous e.g. Thunderstorms)
