National 3-Peaks - 09 July

National 3-Peaks - 09 July

09-12 July 2021

Are you fit enough!? - This classic challenge involves climbing to the highest point in Scotland, England and Wales - All within 24hrs!

This is a tough trip as not only are you expected to hike these 3 high peaks, a total hiking distance of 42km and a total ascent of 3,000m, but you will also have to contend with having very little sleep (or no sleep at all) over the 24 hours!

Depart London: 6pm on Friday

We aim to set off from London on Friday evening and get as far north as we can before resting for the night in hostel accommodation. This will mean that we can get up later on Saturday and continue the shorter journey to the start of the route: beginning at the base of Ben Nevis at 4pm on Saturday afternoon; travelling through the dark to Scafell Pike and watching the sunrise; heading for Wales and a sunday lunchtime Snowdon summit, will have us at the finish before 4pm on Sunday afternoon, and heading to our accommodation to get some well earned rest. (Or, for the hardcore amongst the group, having a celebratory drink or two in a traditional local pub! - Will you be awake for that?)

Return is by road to the pick-up point for 7pm on Monday

The mountains

Ben Nevis - at 1,345m high this is the highest point in the UK. On a clear day, you can see the coast line of Northern Ireland! The route taken will be up the Zig Zag track from Glen Nevis.

Scafell Pike - at 978m high, this is the lowest of the 3-peaks, but is the highest point in England. We are likely to start this hike at 2am - head torches are essential! The route we will take will be the direct ascent from Wasdale Head.

Snowdon - at 1,085m high, this is the highest point in Wales and signifies the end of an exhausting but incredibly rewarding 24 hours! - We will hike up the Pyg Track to reach the summit.
