City Mountaineering is heading to Chamonix! - The outdoor capital of Europe!
Join us on an adventure of a lifetime that includes rock climbing, via ferata and 3-days/2-nights hut-to-hut hiking taking in the stunning vistas of the Alps and nestled under some of the highest peaks in Europe.
Maintaining our consciousness of the environmental impact associated with international travel we wont be flying... The adventure has been extended to incorporate relaxing and scenic train journeys begining in London.
This is a 9-day adventure requiring just 5-days off work!
Saturday 24 September - Depart London on the Eurostar to Paris with you UK/City Mountaineering representative. Transfer to the TGV in Paris and continue on our high speed jounrey through France to Lyon/Geneva.
1-night in Lyon/Geneva.
Sunday 25 September - Depart Lyon/Geneva for a picturesque train journey through The Alps arriving in Chamonix in the afternoon.
You will be introduced to your local hosts at a welcome meeting in the evening before dinner time. Overnight at the lodge.
Monday 26 Sept - Rock climbing
After an energising breakfast at the lodge we head off to the local climbing crag opposite a beautiful lake with Mont Blanc views. Here we meet our climbing guides and we learn the basics of rock climbing.
For those that have done this previously, there is the chance to climb some more progressive routes. For those just starting out, this is the perfect setting to build confidence and pick up knowledge. We’ll bring packed lunches with us to eat by the lake.
There will be time in the afternoon to explore chamonix and rest up in time for dinner. Overnight at the lodge.
Tuesday 27 September - Via Ferrata
Today we head up the cable car at Flegere to the newly build via Ferrata des Evettes at 2150m high.
A short 20 minute walk gets us to the start of the route. Duration 3-4hrs round trip with plenty of time to take in the views. The route is equipped with a Himalayan style bridge - truly an amazing experience. Overnight at the lodge.
Wednesday 28 September - Hike to refuge Lac Blanc
Right, time to pack your overnight kit. We’re heading up to the Aiguilles Rouges mountains above Chamonix to visit the lac blanc and lac des cheserys. Two of the most stunning lakes in the Alps!
We’ll choose a nice spot for our packed lunches before settling in to the Refuge Lac Blanc for dinner and our cosy overnight stay. After dinner it’s always worth popping back outside to see the sunset. Overnight in the refuge.
Hiking distance 12km, elevation gain 1350m.
Thursday 29 September - Hike to refuge Plan de l’Aiguille
After a sunrise wake up call, we tuck in to breakfast and then head down the valley. We make our way up the northern side of the valley up the steeper slopes under the Aiguille du Midi. There’s time to visit Lac Bleu before checking in to the mountain refuge for dinner and a welcome rest. Overnight in the refuge.
Hiking distance 20km, elevation gain 1300m.
Friday 30 September - Descend to Chamonix / Free time to visit aiguille du midi
After another spectacular mountain breakfast and sunrise (fingers crossed) we’ll descend from the refuge back to our lodge in Chamonix for a welcome shower and refresh.
The afternoon is free to explore the town and/or head up to some of the must see viewpoints such as the Aiguille du Midi using the cable car. Overnight at the lodge.
